Swamp

Rune 1 of 2

Illustrative reconstruction: frames, palettes and effect timings come from the ROM. Part placement and drawing speed are choices of this viewer.

Outcome and status application are selected for the demonstration; they are not a battle roll.

As in the game, clouds, drops and splashes vanish together 1.05 s after the impact, when the effect is deleted. Until then the drops dim and brighten again, and each splash holds still until the next one.

The scene uses the game’s map 046 to show the terrain the spell acts on. The overlay appears on the same tick as in the game, inside its circle and with the tiles the game picks from the neighbouring cells. The spot on the map and the animation phase are choices of this view.

The terrain change (Turns quicksand into swamp) lasts 20 s, longer than the scene: it stays on the map when the scene ends.

How to cast it

Draw these runes in order, each in one stroke, while holding L.

  1. Water III

Terrain: Turns quicksand into swamp

Terrain it paints

A circle of 65 px, for 20 s. The 8 × 8 px cells whose centre is inside are painted.

Sand turned to swamp
Sand turned to swamp · On sand and flowing sand · 3 frames of 150 ms

Inside its circle it removes dried swamp, even when another spell put it, while it lasts.

It appears at once and, when it ends, vanishes with no animation: the game has no entry or exit animation. The 3 frames loop the whole time. It is only the picture: the terrain status gives the effect on units. The layer’s 32 tiles with the game’s palette and frame timing; not a screenshot.

Against creatures

It heals earth creatures a little instead of hurting them (1/16 of its power) and does ×1.5 to wind ones. Against the rest, normal damage.

Earth creatures: Gnome, Rune Gnome, Mush-Mushy, Brown Shog, Mud Golem, Stone Golem, Earth Hound, Earth Dragon, Earth Mage, Geh Olg

Wind creatures (×1.5): Silfeed, Runefeed, Green Shog, Harpia, Elpia, Gale Hound, Acrobat, Gale Dragon, Wind Mage, Trista

Power at cast

Before the target’s element and defenses. Each value is the game’s own formula.
